Maren Thielen

When did you start working at Clearstream?

Including my internship, I have been working at Clearstream for over a year. In July 2018, I started my internship in Group Communications & Marketing for six months and got a permanent contract as Customer Service Officer afterwards.

When did you realise that you would like to work in the financial services sector?

I already realised during my International Business studies in the Netherlands and Poland that I am really interested in the financial sector and that I wanted to do my internship there. Additionally, I am originally from the region of Bitburg, which is close to the Luxembourgish border, so I already knew that there are many companies from the financial sector based here. All of this led me to the conclusion that I wanted to come back home and do my internship in Luxembourg. And of course, I knew that Clearstream is one of the main players in the financial sector, which is why I applied for my internship here and how I ended up at Clearstream.

What are your tasks?

Currently, I am working as Customer Service Officer in the German markets team. My team is the first contact point for clients for all questions regarding Clearstream’s ICSD core business, that is, income, settlement, cash or corporate actions. For very specific questions, we work closely with our experts in the concerned operational department to find the answer and then act as intermediary to help resolve the client’s query.

What are the important skills for your job?

I think as a key skill you need to be very open and communicative to ease the work with colleagues throughout different departments. You need to be able to ask for help and you should have the incentive to really understand how the business works. Also, you must learn how to interact with clients and be able to work as part of a team. Essentially, you are the rock in troubled waters for your clients.

Which opportunities came your way?

I was very happy to become a permanent employee. After my internship, I realised how much I wanted to work here at Clearstream and was happy to get the permanent contract.

Is there something that inspires you, work-related or personal?

It is inspiring how everyone at Clearstream is happy to help and I was very surprised at how much responsibility you have from day one, which means that everyone already shows a lot of faith in you and your abilities.
